Learn from Others

Have you seen the movie ‘Invictus’? I’ll share a conversation from it.

Nelson Mandela: How do you inspire your team to do their best?
Francois Pienaar: By example. I’ve always thought to lead by example, sir.
Nelson Mandela: Well, that is right. That is exactly right. But how do we get them to be better then they think they CAN be? That is very difficult, I find. Inspiration, perhaps. How do we inspire ourselves to greatness when nothing less will do? How do we inspire everyone around us? I sometimes think it is by using the work of others.

There are times when it’s tough to inspire your team or even yourself because the challenges on ground are fresh and you’ve never seen them before.

The truth is, no situation is entirely new and you can learn from the experiences of others who have gone through similar challenges.

As you look ahead in life, don’t allow the feeling of inadequacy stop you from achieving greatness. Search for quality role models, adapt (to your peculiar context) adopt their strategies and inspire yourself to the next level.

In many cases, there’s absolutely no need struggling to achieve success because you are trying to re-invent the wheel. You are allowed to learn and use the works of others.

Have a great day – HA
