It’s a new week in a new month of love! Isn’t it interesting how much we have come to accept February 14th as a day to celebrate love? Thanks to St. Valentine and the people who decided to remember him and his act of love.
Love has many characteristics, and if you read the bible, you’ll see many of them listed in 1 Corinthians 13. One key characteristic that stands out in my opinion is that, ‘Love Gives’. Love gives love, forgiveness, kindness, goodness, corrections, and every lovely thing you can think of.
Even God gave because He loves. And of course, He is love personified – Romans 5:8-10 (MSG) says
But God put his love on the line for us by offering (giving) his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him. Now that we are set right with God by means of this sacrificial death, the consummate blood sacrifice, there is no longer a question of being at odds with God in any way. If, when we were at our worst, we were put on friendly terms with God by the sacrificial death of his Son, now that we’re at our best, just think of how our lives will expand and deepen by means of his resurrection life!
God doesn’t just give, he gives sacrificially, and he gave His son to bring us back to Himself when we were totally weak, against Him and of no use to Him. His gift brought us into the fullness of His love; our life expands and deepens with every beautiful thing because of His love. What other love can be more than this?
As we celebrate love this month, let’s remember and accept the greatest gift of love ever – Jesus. Let’s give love, to our spouses, children, family members, friends, colleagues, neighbors, that boy on the street and/or that girl who needs help. Let’s show real love, the God kind of love to people around us.
